Eri Glans-Suzuki

Eri Glans-Suzuki, AFSCME Council 57 Executive Board Member
Executive Board Member

Eri is a reservations support tech at the East Bay Regional Parks District and a member of AFSCME Local 2428.

When she was hired more than 10 years ago, she liked the idea of being in a union, attending meetings to hear about what was happening around the district, and having the opportunity to discuss and vote on the direction of her local. She has always appreciated the fact that, because of the union, she gets paid health care and a pension—after going years without those benefits.

Eri's union activism was sparked when East Bay Regional Park District management proposed a drastic take-away contract during contract negotiations several years ago. She participated in protests at board meetings, spoke against the cuts proposed by management and became outspoken about the injustices that were happening.

Since then, Eri has been a steward, at-large Local 2428 executive board member, vice president and local president. She has also been on her local's meet and confer, finance, negotiations, labor management, PAC and diversity committees.

Eri has also been very active in Council 57 and Central Labor Councils, and she has been active in getting pro-worker candidates elected to office.

Eri believes in the power of workers working for a common good, and she believes in making our council work for our locals and the members we serve. Using our members' collective wisdom, she is excited to continue working for our members and organizing unorganized workers so that we can continue to grow our voices and our power.
