Nadia grew up in the East Bay in a household of staunch Democrats. Her father was President of his AFT local, and when her mother re-joined the workforce she was a CSEA member. Politics and trade unionism were a huge part of her upbringing, and most of her life has been devoted to the labor movement and social justice.

After working as a community and political organizer in Santa Cruz, and upon graduating from UCSC, she moved from a student worker to permanent employee at the UCSC library. AFSCME had just embarked on the initial organizing drive of most of the UC workers, and Nadia worked as a steward, organizer and Local President during the successful recognition election. She served on the negotiating team for the first UC contract covering the nine campuses at that time, then was offered a staff job with then AFSCME Council 10 representing and negotiating for clerical, service, patient technical and skilled craft workers at UCSF and UCSC.

Nadia joined the staff of Council 57 in 1991, and has represented County of San Mateo workers since then, as well as various peninsula cities. She currently represents AFSCME members in County of San Mateo, Housing Authority of San Mateo County, Menlo Park Mid-Management, San Mateo Union High School District, and Sequoia Union High School District. She is currently on the Executive Board of the San Mateo Central Labor Council and has served on a variety of committees and commissions including the county Workforce Investment Board.
