Martin is a savvy communications professional with more than 10 years of media experience across the journalism, public relations and social media industries. He has expertise in developing creative communications strategies that grow audiences and provide new narratives for communities desperate for quality and accuracy.

Throughout his extensive journalism career, Martin was a reporter for the Hayward Daily Review, he launched and reported for a hyperlocal site in Oakland and was a reporter for the Washington Post. As a student at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism, Martin won the 2010 Online Journalism Award for his master's project about agriculture in Sierra Leone. He also served as the founding editor of San Bruno Patch, a news startup under AOL. He won an award for overall excellence from the Peninsula Press Club for his site’s coverage of the 2010 San Bruno pipeline explosion.

Before joining the staff at Council 57, Martin was the communications specialist for Oakland Community Organizations, one of the largest and most historic community organizing networks in Oakland.
