AFSCME Executive Board Training

Serving on the Executive Board of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal (AFSCME Local 2703) is both an honor and a responsibility.  We recently had  the opportunity to attend the AFSCME Executive Board Training on February 21, 2026.  The purpose of the training was to learn the duties, responsibilities and principles supporting being on the executive board. The training was ran by two dynamic people who were highly engaging and motivated to help us move forward.

Approximately 25 AFSCME members attended the training.  We had break-out sessions and various stations intended to help us learn the following: the attributes that contributed to being an effective leader; areas for improvement for members and leaders; and how to effectively bring more awareness and engagement with members across various platforms that also promoted a sense of inclusion as well as empowerment.

We learned during this training that many of those in attendance had similarities in our motivation for being in service such as helping our fellow members and justice and equity for all involved; along with making sure that everyone’s voice was heard.  We learned the power and importance of networking within and outside of our local chapter.

One of the biggest realizations was that most members and their chapters were in mutual agreement about the things that were being done and working effectively. We were also in agreeance about areas where we could improve and the breakout session helped illuminate ways to do that.

This was an amazing training and helped us learn how to move forward with purpose and intention.  Ten out of ten recommend.

Warmly,

Tanya Riley and Danna Jensen
